Watching Maui Whales in Kihei

About Kihei

Found on the south shore of Maui, Kihei is a fine example of island living. With a population of approximately 19,843 and a land area of approximately 38.8 square miles, it is one of Maui's more popular destinations. Driving down South Kihei Road you will easily see Kihei's appeal.

The beautiful blue Pacific Ocean on one side and Kihei Town on the other, the town consists of many local shops, restaurants, and activities. Kihei has some of the island's best beaches. From December thru March, find your favorite beach, plop down on the sand and watch the horizon. You will be sure to see one of Maui's favorite attractions when the humpback whales migrate here from Alaska to give birth. One of their favorite spots is the area of water between Maui, Molokini, and Kaahoolawe. These goliaths of the sea, at full maturity, weigh anywhere from 25-50 tons. When they are feeling playful, it is quite the sight to see one fully breach out of the water.
